Individual Therapy
Individual counselling is sometimes referred to as psychotherapy or just 'therapy'. It is a process through which you meet on a regular basis with one of our qualified and experienced counsellors, in a safe, supportive and confidential environment. This allows you to explore your feelings, beliefs, behaviors, and distressing memories, to focus on the issues that brought you to counselling, and so identify aspects of your life that you would like to be different, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with immediate life challenges such as separation, trauma, domestic violence, substance dependence, and the impact of significant illness, through to examining and dealing with long-term childhood trauma, depression or anxiety, or it may simply be that you wish to enhance the skills and enjoyment of life you already have. A client and counsellor may work together for as few as five or six sessions or for much longer, depending on the client’s needs and personal goals for therapy.

Relationship Counselling
At inSync for life, the relationship counselling we provide is primarily based upon The Gottman Method: in his research John Gottman has observed more than 3,000 couples, with some being followed up for more than 20 years. John and his wife Julie Gottman, have found that couples who stay happily together have everyday interactions with each other that are positive, and they are far less negative and more gentle in the ways they handle conflict. In this way, John Gottman proposed four ways of interacting within a relationship, that are the best predictors of divorce: he called these the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Relationship counselling is not just about improving communication; it's about improving the type of communication between you and your partner. Using the Gottman Method, we provide a thorough assessment of your couple relationship and integrate research-based counselling based on the Sound Relationship House Theory. Our primary relationship counsellor, Helena, is in a unique position of being both Level 2 trained in the Gottman Method, and a Clinical Sexologist.

Children and Adolescent Counselling
Just like adults, children and adolescents experience stress and problems in everyday living. In today's often pressured life, children and adolescents may have difficulties such as with peer pressure, school, and bullying. They are also highly susceptible to family issues such as arguing between parents, separation and divorce, loss and grief transition, and either them or a parent experiencing a significant illness.
Adolescence is particularly a time of significant change. This is the period for young people to develop their own personal and sexual identity away from the family, which can result in considerable physical, emotional and psychological change. It can be a challenging and tricky time for the young person and their family.
Counselling can support children and adolescents to develop resilience, strengthen their self-esteem and identity, and develop a greater understanding of the issues with which they're faced
Most of our Counsellors at inSync for life are registered with the Department of Communities. We provide supportive treatment counselling to young people who have experienced significant trauma such as child abuse of some form. We have a dedicated play-therapy room where our therapists can interact with our younger clients in a safe place to gain a better understanding of the problems they are having, and to support them to develop their ability to simply enjoy life, which is the right of all children.
