5 Tips to a better therapy
CommitMake the Decision to Commit to your therapy. Something is not right in your world...Be Open... Speak openly and Honestly. Your therapist will provide the energy, skills, time and commitment to supporting you. Remember to maintain YOUR commitment to YOUR therapy.

AttendThis might seem silly... but for the success of your therapy, it's vital that you attend...on time. As your counselling becomes increasingly challenging, you might find yourself 'running late' or finding reasons not to attend. Work through this...discuss with your therapist...keep going!

EmbraceBe willing to be challenged... If you continue to do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got. Counselling should be challenging to assist you to be different in life...to think differently in life...to feel differently in life. EMBRACE the challenges of therapy.

DoThere are 168 hours in a week...with only one of these in therapy. Where do you think most of the 'real difference' in your life takes place? Right! in the Real world outside the counselling office. In most cases your therapist will give you work to do away from the counselling setting. Make a commitment to do this work... the therapist will usually provide you with skills and strategies, but you will need to practice, practice, and practice these until they are 'internalised' and become automatic in your life. It's then that you will see real difference.

Stay / GoCounselling is a JOINT process between you and your therapist. It's important that both you and your therapist make the decision when to end counselling. If you have ever had a course of antibiotics, you know that your Doctor always reminds you to take them all...finish the course! it's the same for therapy. Too many people finish too early...before real difference is internalised, only to have the same problems re-surface at a later date. If you get the urge to finish counselling, discuss this with your counsellor...you may be surprised that there's much more to learn!
