inSync for life was formed from a joining of South West Psychology, Counselling & Training Services, with Relate: Sexuality & Intimacy Counselling.
Our Team of highly qualified and experienced Psychologists and Counsellors are available to provide a range of therapy services to assist you to make positive changes in your life and your relationship.
Offices in Perth and Bunbury
Our Perth office is based in Shenton Park, with the primary practitioner there being Jurgen. Our main office is situated in the CBD of Bunbury. There we have three dedicated counselling rooms, a family therapy room and a dedicated play therapy room for our younger clients.
How we can support you
We provide counselling for a range of common issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, stress and anger management.
In addition, we have Counsellors specialising in issues such as sexual problems, drug and alcohol addiction, childhood-related trauma, eating disorders, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and the more severe Personality Disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder.
We are fortunate to have a Clinical Sexologist, Helena, who has just completed Level Two of Gottman Relationship Counselling: The combination of these two qualifications means that Helena is uniquely placed to assist couples with both relationship and sexual counselling.
We also have on our Team, Joshua, a highly experienced Conflict Resolution Practitioner, for those experiencing conflict in their relationship or at work.
Many of our clinicians have over 20 years experience and on average have more than 10 years experience.
Qualifications
All of our Psychologists and Counsellors are registered with appropriate organisations. Our Psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and abide by the Australian Psychological Society ethical codes of conduct. Our Counsellors are highly experienced and professionally registered to practice.
What you can expect
The first session with a Psychologist or Counsellor, will allow you to tell your story. The therapist will listen to your concerns and gather information to form a comprehensive initial assessment, to ensure that we have a good understanding of the problems and issues that brought you into counselling. During this first session, the therapist will discuss with you, your goals for counselling, and then in conjunction with you, will develop a counselling plan to ensure the most effective outcome. This plan will include regular reviews and evaluations of your progress.
Subsequent counselling sessions will focus on the problem issues and goals identified during the initial session. Sometimes, it might be necessary to talk about other issues that might arise during counselling, that were not identified during the first session. This is a normal part of the counselling process. If this happens, the therapist will discuss with you, whether it's necessary to re-define the counselling goals and plan.
How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions will vary depending on your situation, although from our experience, we generally suggest you allow for 6 - 12 sessions. It is important to remember that personal problems and those in relationship have usually developed over a long period of time, and are likely to require some time to deal with the issues that have arisen. We do suggest that even though you may be feeling some benefit after 2 or 3 sessions, you continue with the counselling to strengthen the skills you are making. Overall though, the number of sessions is your decision - our job is to support and guide you.
All counselling sessions will be just under one hour.
Fees and rebates
Our rates are well below those recommended by the Australian Psychological Society.
With a current Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP, you can claim back more than half of the full-fee for a psychology counselling session from Medicare.
We are also currently registering with Private Health Funds for those who are eligible for such a claim.
While some of our Therapists do not work under the Medicare system, we can provide a sliding scale of fees for clients who are in receipt of Centrelink benefits. Please advise of this if you refer yourself, and discuss it with your Therapist during the first session.
If you have a diagnosis of cancer, you may be eligible for four subsidised counselling sessions with our Clinical Sexologist through the Cancer Council.
Please note that appointments in our Bunbury office after 5pm and on Saturday morning, will usually incur a 10% fee increase.
