Laura Claxton
Counsellor
Master of Counselling (Bsc Psychology (1st Class Hons)
Laura is a fully qualified counsellor with a Psychology degree from the UK and a Master of Counselling from Notre Dame University, Australia. She brings a naturally intuitive and calming presence to her work, creating a space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported.
Laura has experience counselling individuals across the lifespan—from children as young as six through to older adults over sixty-five. Her clinical experience includes supporting people through grief and loss, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. She has also worked with adolescents in a special needs college, providing counselling for young people aged 15–18 experiencing anxiety, ADHD, autism, and other neurodiverse presentations. In addition, Laura has supported new mothers navigating the challenges of early motherhood, as well as individuals experiencing difficulties in relationships.
Her therapeutic approach is less focused on diagnosis but rather integrates evidence-based approaches with a deeply embodied and compassionate presence. Drawing on Schema Therapy, Laura helps clients understand how their early experiences and patterns shape the way they view themselves and the world, while exploring new, more curious ways of being. Trained in Mindfulness and mediation Laura also incorporates somatic awareness and mindfulness-based methods to support clients in connecting mind and body, facilitating healing at a deeper level.
Furthermore Laura also draws on Narrative Therapy to help individuals see that they are not defined by their stories or struggles, as well as integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to highlight the powerful link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
With past work experience spanning hospitals, administrative roles, universities, and even a period as a tennis coach, Laura offers a rich tapestry of life experiences that inform her counselling practice.
Outside of her professional life, Laura enjoys walking in nature, playing sports, music, and travelling.
